A Mangled Mesh.

“You bragged that you could tear down the Temple and then rebuild it in three days—so show us your stuff! Save yourself! If you’re really God’s Son, come down from that cross! He saved others—he can’t save himself! King of Israel, is he? Then let him get down from that cross. We’ll all become believers then! He was so sure of God—well, let him rescue his ‘Son’ now—if he wants him! He did claim to be God’s Son, didn’t he?”

Matthew 27:39-43

I saw from a distance a crowd mocking You as You hung from the cross. They spat at Your face. They tore down Your clothes. They called You names and ridiculed every principle You stood for. And yet You did nothing.

I find myself crying as I look at You. Skeptical and angry. Frustrated and confused;

Phenomenal-Cosmic-Powers; and You couldn’t just do some hocus-pocus to silence them?

You stayed on the cross until life itself begrudgingly left Your innocent body.

Why did You choose such a humiliating end?! You are the King of Kings! And You chose to be broken like a dog!

I cry for the mangled mesh on the cross. I cry for what a disgrace that mesh must seem to be to those who don’t understand.

But I also cry because my Hero rose to the occasion.

He forgave us all our sins, having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; He has taken it away, nailing it to the cross.

Colossians 2:13-14

I’m overwhelmed at the lengths You were willing to go to hold on tight to me and never let me go.

Once you were alienated from God […] but now He has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through death to present you holy in His sight.

Colossians 19:21-22

You chose to redeem a people so undeserving.

Was it not You who dried up the sea, the waters of the great deep, who made a road in the depths of the sea so that the redeemed might cross over?

Isaiah 51:10

I hold my Mangled Mesh close to my heart. He didn’t come down from the cross when they taunted Him because He’s not here to convince anyone He’s real nor prove His power. His sacrifice was for one reason: to demonstrate His love for a lost generation.

Salvation is here and He lives in me.

Today. Another day to fall more in love with You.

It wasn't the nails that held Him to the cross, it was His love for me.
