There are two things that can undoubtedly corrupt; power and money.
I think everyone has an innate desire to rule. To have at least that much power over one thing in your life.
Just that some refuse it, others take hold of it, yet still some fear it.
How we deal with power determines if it corrupts us or strengthens us.

Can I be trusted with power?
Heh. I say it as if I have it in my possession or that it was mine for the taking.
One thing God has spoken,
two things I have heard:
“Power belongs to you, God
I guess, then, the right question would be,
Can God trust me with power?
There was once a young man named Joseph who dreamt that he was going to be so influential even his father, mother and eleven brothers will bow down to him. The next day he stupidly recounted the dream to his family. His cocky attitude and big mouth pissed off his jealous brothers who quietly sold him to slavery in Egypt and lied to their father that he was killed by wild animals. He had to go through jail, to being put to serve in a house of the captain of the palace guard, to being accused of raping his master’s wife, back to prison, to being forgotten before finally stepping into his destiny as Pharaoh’s right hand man.
Where once he gave importance to himself and rubbed his talents in another’s face, he then gave glory to God because he recognized it is God who brings the promotion. And promotion is never for a one-man show. Joseph eventually ended up being a source of deliverance during a time of global famine and need.
A super-heroine always wants to use her powers to save the multitudes but a villain uses her power always only for herself.
I would one day want to have global influence. And I’d want to want that influence for the right reason; to make a positive change to the people around me.
I’d want the people in my charge, and the people who watch my life to say what Pharaoh said about Joseph;
So Pharaoh asked them, “Can we find anyone like this man, one in whom is the spirit of God?”
