The preparation between the awakening of desire in a young woman’s heart to share her life with her soul-mate and the day she walks down the aisle and says ‘I Do’ is the most precious in her life. This is the time for thoroughly discovering who you are in God as an individual and spending time with Him that having a family and more responsibilities may sometimes rob you of. It’s the setting up of that woman in Proverbs 31, that woman of strong and noble character that is hard to find.
No one understands why some women get married early or why some marry late or why some never marry. In every society there is an unspoken standard for unmarried women, in Malaysia, that woman should get married by 24, have all her kids before 30 and hope to be a youthful-looking grandmother by 55.
It’s not our place to measure ourselves by someone else’s yard stick. Not when it’s at the expense of the rest of your life.
In the game Dodgeball, the wait for your name to be called out to belong to a team is excruciating. I mean, no one likes being picked last. But life isn’t a game, and neither is love. And you’re on one team, His team. His time. People may whisper behind your back and ask the why’s and what’s and how’s of your single-hood and you’ll be tempted to take things into your own hands but if you do, you will see that nothing compares to being in His hands, according to His plans. In His time.
If you’re a Dalmatian waiting for your spots, you can try to put on a coat but a substitute is nowhere near being as good as the real thing.
Even when it comes to chastity, saying ‘No’ isn’t easy, especially in a world that has forgotten how to value a women’s body as only belonging to one man, but saying ‘No’ means having one less regret to make.
I guess what I’m saying is, the wait isn’t easy, but it’s worth it. HE is worth. He’ll be everything you need (not just want) and more.
Some people think it’s over-spiritualizing to ask God for His ‘Yes’, but in my opinion, choosing to wait on God is anytime better than ‘seeing how it goes’. But that’s just me.
It’s like getting a gift. Just that you don’t know when you’ll get it. Instead of waiting around by the tree for it to come, busy your hands with what matters and when the time comes…
Dont’ dread single-hood as a phase you have to get over with, now is the time to know your value so it won’t be shaken even if 30 is staring you in the face and God is still saying ‘Wait’.
Just like how he will be worth the wait, you are worth the chase.
“I will be the one drenched in Proverbs 31, waiting for you.”
