Wonderlast: Israel Day 4

This year marks Israel’s 70th year as a nation. It’s not a lot of time for a country but you can see how far they’ve come in that duration. In Hebrew gematria (numbers and meaning) 70 is a symbol of nations, unity and restoration, among other things. Why is this important? Well, because with where Israel is right now we are seeing a fulfilment of an ancient Prophecy that God Himself said not just once or twice but dozens of times in scripture;

I myself will gather the remnant of my flock out of all the countries where I have driven them and will bring them back to their pasture, where they will be fruitful and increase in number.

Jeremiah 23:3

How does that relate to us? The regathering of God’s people in the Promise Land is a sign to all of us.

A sign of what? God’s Word says the gathering of the remnant is NOT because Israel deserves it, NOT because they are superior to us or have earned it but it is a testament to God’s character itself, that He is a covenant keeping God. It is for HIS namesake. So it is a sign to us of God’s character.

But why does it matter if God keeps His promises to Israel to bring them back from around the globe? Because we have a covenant with the same God! If God cannot keep His promises to them, what makes you think He will keep His word with us?

The Bible is full of God’s promises to us, including salvation. Jesus has promised us eternal life. In fact, we lay our very lives on the line for Him. We forsake even our families to pursue Him. We give up our old ways and sacrifice our innermost desires in exchange for His because we cling on to His promises. How can we be sure that God will keep His promises to us?

When we see with our eyes the Jews coming back to Israel and the nation turning to God, we see the faithfulness of His character and we are assured He is truly God.

Therefore, give the people of Israel this message from the Sovereign Lord: I am bringing you back, but not because you deserve it. I am doing it to protect my holy name, on which you brought shame while you were scattered among the nations. I will show how holy my great name is—the name on which you brought shame among the nations. And when I reveal my holiness through you before their very eyes, says the Sovereign Lord, then the nations will know that I am the Lord.

Ezekiel 36:22-23

The one thing satan has set as his goal from day one is to make God out to be a liar, if he can get rid of Israel, or keep them from entering the promise land or from regathering, then the promise is nullified and God is no God if He cannot stay true to His word.

So it is a sign to us that He is truly a promise-keeping God.

Meet Frank the shofar player/seller

I finally tried a shofar today, or rather, it tried me. Apparently it takes a long time to learn the shofar, some take weeks to months, but when I blew it today it resounded loudly throughout the whole courtyard and it sounded so smooth and sweet. A sign? Quite tempted to get leh.

A view of Galilee behind me.

Thinking of: The sound of my victory and catching the wave quickly.
